  • The concept of salt therapy traces back to salt mines in Eastern Europe and Russia. While mine workers are generally not known for their good health, it was observed that those working in salt mines were an exception, exhibiting better health and a more youthful appearance than their peers. In 1839, a doctor in Poland recognized this and began utilizing salt mines for health benefits. By the 1990s, dry salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, began to spread to other regions, including the United States.

You might be aware of other methods of using salt for health, such as saline solutions, salt baths, and salt scrubs, which are all forms of wet salt therapy. In contrast, dry salt therapy employs a halogenerator that grinds pure sodium chloride into micro-sized particles that can be inhaled and absorbed through the skin. Salt possesses three main properties: it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and highly absorbent. When inhaled, the salt particles help to absorb toxins, allergens, and other foreign substances in the respiratory system. They can also help loosen mucus, aiding the body in clearing out harmful materials. Regular use of dry salt therapy can benefit individuals with respiratory issues like asthma, bronchitis, allergies, COPD, and cystic fibrosis. Similarly, when applied to the skin, it can improve conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Halotherapy is a highly beneficial treatment for overall health, and with consistent use, it can enhance immune function, reduce stress, improve skin health and appearance, and promote better sleep. It is considered safe and has no adverse side effects, making it suitable for babies and animals as well. However, it is not advised for individuals with contagious diseases, active fevers, tuberculosis, lung cancer, open wounds, severe hypertension, or mental health disorders. Pregnant women and those with serious medical conditions should consult their doctor before trying halotherapy.

  • The infrared sauna distinguishes itself from traditional dry heat and steam saunas by utilizing invisible infrared wavelengths. Similar to the warmth emitted by the sun, these wavelengths increase the body's thermal energy, effectively heating the body from the inside out. Notably, the infrared rays employed in this technology are distinct from those that cause sunburn, ensuring a safe and beneficial experience.

There are three distinct categories of infrared wavelengths: near, mid, and far infrared. Each type offers unique health benefits. Near infrared wavelengths are absorbed just beneath the skin's surface, inducing sweating and initiating the detoxification process. Mid infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper into the body's soft tissue, increasing blood flow and oxygenation. This can be particularly beneficial for injured or painful areas, promoting accelerated healing and relaxation.

Far infrared wavelengths, being the longest, have been shown to penetrate adipose cells, facilitating the release of stored toxins. Fat cells often retain toxins that enter the body, and far infrared sauna therapy can aid in eliminating these toxins, leading to improved overall health. Additionally, this process may support weight loss and enhanced metabolic function.

Our state-of-the-art Clearlight sauna at The Wellhaus utilizes all three infrared wavelengths, providing a comprehensive and therapeutic experience.

The incorporation of infrared heat in our sauna results in a lower ambient temperature compared to traditional saunas. Typically, our infrared sauna operates within a temperature range of 115°F to 135°F, whereas traditional saunas can reach temperatures of up to 195°F. This moderate temperature allows the body to gradually warm up and initiate sweating naturally, rather than being suddenly exposed to extreme heat. Consequently, this experience promotes relaxation and leverages the numerous health benefits inherent to infrared heat therapy.

  • Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation or low-level light therapy, utilizes a combination of red and near-infrared light to address various skin conditions, reduce inflammation, and promote cellular healing. While red light is visible, near-infrared light is invisible to the human eye. Red light penetrates the skin's surface, whereas near-infrared light reaches deeper tissues.

These light beams target cellular mitochondria, enhancing energy production and optimizing bodily functions. By stimulating cellular healing from within, the body can naturally repair itself.

When using a red light device, you may notice a gentle warming sensation, similar to the effects of infrared sauna therapy. This treatment is particularly beneficial for healing injuries, reducing inflammation, and alleviating pain.

The combined benefits of red and near-infrared light also promote anti-aging effects, improving skin appearance and overall health.
